Mockingbird Soul and Other Delights

Posted by on Jan 17, 2017

FIRST—Happy New Year! Let’s get together and feel all right! Let’s make music! Let’s gather around great music!

I’m playing this weekend in Alabama!

Saturday Jan 21 – Columbiana, AL – Black Box Theater
Sunday Jan 22 – Mobile, AL – Callaghan’s Irish Social Club

These are solo shows. I have a ton of new songs. Come hear old favorites and new ones. Can’t wait to play both of these venues—this will be my 2nd show at Black Box Theater and it’s a really cool venue to play AND a great place to see and hear me. Of course, Callaghan’s is my home away from home and one of the best small venues anywhere!

So…my first duo record with Brigitte DeMeyer is coming out January 27, 2017. This has been a couple of years in the making. We met at a Music City Roots taping and dug each others’ music. I played on Brigitte’s “Rose of Jericho” album. We wrote almost all of her “Savannah Road” album. Then we started writing again. “Mockingbird Soul” is the result. Mostly songs we wrote together, this is a soulful set of tunes and I am delighted to see it released. Pre-order on iTunes: and Amazon:“>
No Depression’s review:

We have several shows this month:

Fri, Jan 27 – Nashville, TN – The Basement – Early Show!

Sat, Jan 28 – Birmingham, AL – Small Stages

Sun, Jan 29 – Decatur, GA – Eddie’s Attic

Tue, Jan 31 – Nashville, TN – The Bluebird Cafe

The details are here:

I had a fantastic 30A Songwriters Festival in beautiful Northwest Florida. I had shows with Brigitte, with Willie Sugarcapps and also played in the round with several great writers. My dear friend, the uber-guitarist Pat Buchanan, sat in with me and of course stole the show. The Friday night at Bud and Alley’s with Brigitte and the Sunday morning show with Willie Sugarcapps at The Boathouse in Watercolor were particularly great.

I wrote a song called “Summer Storm” with my friend the super talented Rich McCully and the song will be featured this week on the CMT series “Nashville”. Very excited about this! So make sure you watch this Thursday, January 19, and listen for our song. It is available on iTunes:

There is a whole lot coming up in February, including more tour dates with Brigitte DeMeyer to celebrate the release of “Mockingbird Soul”, recording sessions producing the new Bill Toms and Hard Rain album, and recording sessions with the amazing Mary Gauthier!

Grateful in the new year! Be safe, be smart, have fun.
